Happy retirement Jim!

Nick & Sharon headed to Tauranga to join in the celebration of 20yrs in business for Builtin and Jim’s retirement from the insurance industry. Jim was treated to an all in staff flash dance of the very popular Stayin Alive & YMCA. Loads of laughs ahead of some serious words about a great man and great service for those of us in the building industry. Below photos are of Jim & Ben from Builtin and Nick from Edgecity sharing great stories at Jim’s retirement gig. Edgecity have had a 16yrs + association with Jim and the team so there was lots of share!

NZ Certified Builders Auckland - Quiz Night held at the Auckland Yacht Squadron

Barbara MacGregor, Auckland President and her team held a Quiz night on the 18th August. The event was significant for NZCB Auckland. The first face to face event for members since Covid hit our shores. Great prizes on offer, Quiz Master Brent Riggs (Riggsy) from Hirepool, lots of support from industry partners and sponsors. A whole bunch of Auckland members young and old, new and existing. Edgecity were very happy to come away with a Black Magic fishing rod won in the raffle and a Yeti chilly bin won at auction. All proceeds going to Legasea.

Piranha Tools visit Auckland

ECB joined fellow NZCB’ers Paul Young and his crew at Twin Solutions on a site when Gaston from Piranha came to the North Shore recently. Great chitter chatter was held as Carpenters & Apprentices gathered around the back of the ute to view, chat and buy some of the finest hand tools and all things carpentry. Gaston travelled up from the flood torn territory of Nelson. We wish all in the region the very best as they clean up.

Edgecity TV Stars...

With the supply of materials being an issue, TV news media crews recently caught up with us and filmed Nick’s comments on one of Edgecity’s sites. The crew met after work to watch the footage and share some banter finishing off with a “slice” competition using our new Makita 40V droppy. Clement secured 1st prize for a to the mill cut and Sharon pulled a fine 2nd place finish on the 10mm challenge.

Edgecity become Mental Health First Aiders

Great to be back in the classroom face to face!

Nick, Sharon & Clement from Edgecity Builders alongside fellow NZCB Auckland Committee Members at the Mental Health First Aid Course in Auckland June 2022.

Recently three of the Edgecity team joined forces with industry peers to undertake training towards becoming Mental Health First Aiders. The course was run by HUMANEX at the Stardome Observatory in Auckland. We all gained real value from sharing this time with fellow business operators and our project leads who are focussed on awareness and supporting others struggling with their mental health.

Nick Farrelly NZ Certified Builders Chairperson

Nick has been elected to Chairperson by the newly convened 2022-2023 NZCB Board as the Associations’ 12th Chairperson, with Mike Hayward becoming the NZCBs Vice Chairperson.

As Chairperson, Nick will play a key role in setting the direction for the NZCB. “I am very excited to be NZCB’s Chairperson,” says Nick, “and would like to firstly acknowledge and thank my predecessor, Ian Chamberlain, who demonstrated an extraordinarily high level of commitment & passion during his time as the Association’s Chairperson.

“My wife Sharon and I run Edgecity Builders Limited in Auckland and I have been a member and advocate of the NZCB for 25 years. Across that time, I have enjoyed the opportunity working alongside the membership base, forming great relationships along the way. I am passionate about the NZCB’s role in supporting builders in their businesses, helping them advance their careers, and to prepare and protecting them for unexpected events. I understand the importance of upskilling our membership and raising the bar on technical training. I propose to be a very visible Chairperson, so I look forward to meeting members across the country during my tenure.”

Zoe and Ruby's artwork

When Clients remain in their home during a renovation and they have young families who need to adjust to the upheaval in their family home throughout the construction phase the journey can sometimes be seen as a stressful.

At Edgecity we include all the family in the home renovation journey. We get the young ones to draw us a picture and we encapsulate their art as a time capsule for others to find in the future.

Art work from Zoe (3) and Ruby (9) on a recent home renovation saw them both engage with the build crew as to where they wanted their art to be housed. The young ones are excited to see the builders arrive onsite in the morning and as soon as they are home from school in the afternoon rush in to check if the builders are still onsite. They like to chat to the build crew about what they have built whilst they have been away. Here is some art from a recent project.

Prestige Home Groomers

Tina from Prestige Home Groomers is our expert of builders final cleans. At the end of every job, Tina comes in and diligently tidies and cleans everything up so it sparkles for you when you’re ready to move in.

We’ve worked with Tina on many projects and love her great sense of humour and how she seamlessly gets along with our Crew. It’s another great example of why strong working partnerships are so important to Edgecity.

ECB Crew Toolbox

At our latest ECB Crew Toolbox we held the awards for Crew Member of the Quarter and the ITM Fishing Competition. Ben Rickard from Builtin Insurances shared some recent examples of insurance claims and gave a presentation on insurances relevant to our industry and personal insurances specific to Edgecity and the Crew.

ITM Fishing Competition

There's never a better day to go fishing than a Friday. The Edgecity Crew travelled to Leigh to take part in the ITM Good Buggers Fishing Competition. There was a lot of inhouse competition prior to the first line being cast. First catch went to Boatmaster Kev with a Kahawai and tastiest catch went to Clement with a large Snapper.

It was a great event despite the weather, and a really positive team experience with everyone pitching in with lunch making, boat packing and some much need boat maintenance done by Boatmaster Kev to ensure we all got out on the water. The wild weather kept a few teams off the water, but our trusty old sea dogs braved it for the day.

Whilst the trophy didn't come back to Hillside, our inaugural attendance will ensure we are well prepared to contest the event next year and see the repaired trophy down on the North Shore.

Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Happy Easter!

Can’t believe that we’re almost into our fifth month of the year! We hope you all had a fabulous Easter Weekend, it was great to be able to celebrate with family and friends.

Here’s a cute little pick of the Easter Bunny pack our crew received along with something for those with small ones.

Harry and Zak at the Apprentice Challenge

Harry and Zak took part at the Auckland Regional competition for the NZCB Apprentice Challenge on Saturday.

It was a great day attended by 6 competitors, their supporters, the NZCB Auckland Committee and some appearances by local MPs. Check out some of the highlights below;

Congratulations Kev!

Mr "Can Do" is awarded the Crew Member Quarter 1, 2022 award for his general willingness to undertake any job fired his way, for example hanging out with the alpacas in Taupo and our VIP clients repairs and maintenance. Kev is multi skilled and loves to just be amongst the work.
