AGM for the Triumph Riders Motorcycle Club

Nick recently attended the AGM for the Triumph Riders Motorcycle Club held in Hanmer and returned to Auckland with three trophies in tow. Nick rode his "James Bond" Triumph Scrambler and was awarded the Furtherest Traveller 2022, Best Triumph 2022 1200cc under & Best Adventure Bike 2022. Nick had business meetings to attend in Wellington on both sides of the AGM dates in Hanmer so elected to travel economically on the bike with the weekend in between spent with fellow Triumph riders.

Last Committee meeting of year

Nick in his Board role was invited to the last Auckland NZCB Committee meeting for the year but the first one in person in 3.5 months. The Committee met at Wynyard Pavilion, all scanned in and socially distanced from other guests. It was great to see everyone in person and learn of Committee’s plans for 2022. The biggest challenge was navigating our orders of food and drinks from your phone. See the intensity on the faces.

Supporting Our MATES

It’s a pillar of ECB that we connect in positive and supportive ways with everyone we encounter. Whether that’s friends, family, suppliers, merchants, clients, or crew. Nick caught up with Chris from Mighty Advertising and Slade from Mates in Construction recently to get out and support our local businesses.

Tuffplans delivery!

NZCB Regional Partner and business owner Peter Haszard recently delivered our latest plans printed on his Tuffplan paper. We met him socially distanced in the carpark and all masked up. We highly recommend Tuffplans for durable plans that go the distance. Check out his website for more details.

Fly the Flag

During the whole month of November MATES in Construction will be raising awareness of the importance of talking about mental health and suicide prevention across our industry. Here at Edgecity Builders we take mental health just as seriously as phyisical health and safety and have joined the Fly the Flag campaign by flying our own MATES in Construction flag at our warehouse. If you’re interested in some statistics about mental health in our industry, keeping reading.

Why is it so important to be involved in this campaign?

  • The construction industry has the highest rate of suicide when compared to all other industries in New Zealand.

  • The construction industry loses at least ONE person every week to suicide in construction, that’s more than 52 lives a year, which is the equivalent of 10 per cent of New Zealand’s total suicide rate.

  • We are 6 times more likely to lose somebody in our industry to suicide than we are to a workplace accident.

  • We are a heavily male dominated industry and 99% of those that we lose to suicide in our industry are our men.

Flying the MATES Flag shows our support and raises awareness of suicide prevention in the industry.

It's great to be back at level 3!

It’s great to be back on the tools now that we’re into the swing of level 3 and while we hard at it again, we thought we’d share some of the things we got up to at level 4.

Edgecity Joins the Construction Sector Accord

Edgecity Builders is pleased to announce we have recently joined the Construction Sector Accord.

The Construction Sector Accord is a joint commitment from government and industry to work together to create a high performing construction sector for a better New Zealand.

The Construction Sector Accord was launched in April 2019 by the Prime Minister, Accord Ministers, and the industry Accord Development Group made up of 13 sector leaders from across industry and government.

The Accord created a platform for industry and government to work together to meet some of the key challenges facing the sector including skills and labour shortages, unclear regulations, a lack of coordinated leadership, an uncertain pipeline of work and a culture of shifting risk.

The construction sector is an ecosystem that depends on the high performance of all its many parts and the Accord brings everyone together to support the collective cause.

NZCB Online Lockdown LBP Training

The online Lockdown LBP Training event was a resounding success with close to 500 participants on both mornings. It involved running two simultaneous Zoom meetings with over 200 attendees on each and the organisation of 12 presenters covering a wide variety of products and topics.

Nick was pleased to be able to chair day one for the organisation with Barb MacGregor the new Auckland President chairing day 2.
